A debit card that pays 3-9% cashback in PLUS points on everyday spending
At Mars Money Lab, I’m all about testing passive income ideas that actually work. Plutus is one of my favorites – a debit card that pays 3-9% reward in PLUS points on everyday spending. Whether I’m grabbing groceries, filling up the tank, or renewing subscriptions, it’s earning me rewards without extra effort – redeemable for gift cards, swaps, and more.

My Plutus Experiment
I’ve used Plutus for over two years now, stacking thousands of PLU to unlock higher reward tiers and that sleek metal card. The real value comes month after month from everyday spending – earning base rewards in PLUS points (with optional PLU stacking to unlock higher reward tiers and more perks). My tip: Use perks wisely (e.g., £10+ spend at partners like Amazon or supermarkets for full rebates), top up via Monzo (or similar), and ride out the 45-day lock – the ongoing rewards make it worthwhile. Bonus: I bought some extra PLU early on to accelerate tiers, but the card delivers real savings even without heavy stacking.
How It Works
– Sign Up: Get the card via my Golden Ticket referral link to earn extra £50 – I’ve got 5 left! Available in the UK & EU only.
– Spend: Use it like any Visa debit card – 3% base cashback, up to 9% with higher tiers.
– Earn: Collect PLU, redeemable for gift cards or convertible to cash/crypto.
– Perks: Pick bonuses (e.g., Amazon, Uber) for bigger rewards.
Safety / Risk Rating
Card Rewards & Perks: ★★★★☆ (Very safe)
Cashback in fiat, merchant-funded perks (e.g., Netflix, Spotify rebates), swaps, and gift cards. No capital at risk when using the card for everyday spending.
Optional PLU Holding: ★★☆☆☆ (High risk)
High crypto volatility – PLU is a cryptocurrency token whose price can fluctuate significantly (down over 99% from its all-time high of ~$33) when buying/holding to unlock higher reward tiers.
Personal note: My unrealized loss from PLU is ~£3k (mainly due to price decline). I continue using the Plutus card because it delivers real monthly value through cashback, perks, swaps & gift cards – hoping to slowly recover over time.
Pros and Cons
– Pros: High cashback rates, Visa acceptance everywhere, free tier available.
– Cons: PLU’s value swings with crypto markets, and rewards lock for 45 days.
